Miami holds it roots in Spanish and Latin culture. The city was founded by the Spanish in 1556. Also, it is said that Miami was the first US city to be conceived by a woman, Julia Tuttle. Tuttle was a citrus grower from Cleveland, OH who owned the land that Miami now rests on.
The city of Miami holds many distinctions. In 2008, Miami was named "America's Cleanest City" by Forbes Magazine. Not only is Miami clean and green, it is also a world leader in culture, entertainment, international trade, and finance. Just recently, in 2010, Miami ranked 7th in the United States in these, and other, areas. Globally, the city ranks 33rd.
